Exploring the Daintree Rainforest

Daintree Rainforest & Cape Tribulation

Cape Tribulation was to be the most northern part of our road trip in Australia. Cape Tribulation is a coastal area within the Daintree National Park which offers a combination of beaches and rainforest. On our first night at Safari Lodge (worth staying at if you’re in a campervan) we enjoyed a few glasses of red wine whilst playing some cards. The evening started off extremely civilised, though halfway through our game we were joined by some Aussie locals, and we ended up going on an adventure into the rainforest and partying beside a freshwater Creek all night. It was hilarious; definitely one of those travelling moments we will always look back and laugh about.

Following our eventful night in the Daintree Rainforest, we decided to spend a day exploring, and Cape Tribulation beach was our first stop. This stunning white beach is a great way to spend the morning, although you are unable to swim in the sea due to the danger of crocodiles and jellyfish, the beach is still lovely to walk along and has some rainforest walks surrounding it which are worth visiting.

After the beach we drove further south and firstly did the Dunuji Boardwalk - a 1.8km walk through the most beautiful scenery, it’s a relaxing stroll right through the rainforest. Another walk we would highly recommend is the Marrdja Botanical walk. It was about a 40 minute walk through mangroves, rainforest and pathways and there a many different placards that tell you about the trees and wildlife that surrounds you. This walk wasn’t too challenging, but if you are looking for something a little more challenging you can try out the Mt Sorrow Ridge Walk, which is about 6 hours return.

Another exciting trip you may want to include in your visit is the Daintree Ice-cream company. The farm grows fresh tropical fruits in the orchard and then make it into their own delicious ice cream. It was so fresh and tasty, they change the 4 flavours every day depending on what fruit they have available. It has been voted by Lonely Planet as the most scenic ice cream company in the world so definitely worth your time!
