Naples: The Home of Pizza
An Italian friend of mine described Naples as the "Glasgow" of Italy. When she said this to me, I was intrigued. With its unapologetically loud locals, deliciously rich food, and a vibe that’s a bit chaotic compared to some of the more refined, slower-paced parts of Italy, Naples was truly a unique Italian experience.
Arriving in Naples feels like stepping into the raw, beating heart of Italy, a stark contrast to the polished facades of cities like Florence or Milan. It's as if the city itself is alive, its streets pulsing with a frenetic energy that envelops you the moment you step off the train. The rugged charm of Naples is what I loved most: cobbled streets wind through the old town, lined with rustic buildings that wear their age proudly, draped in a colourful array of laundry hanging from every balcony. These streets are filled with the symphony of everyday life, the loud, unapologetic chatter of locals whose voices echo off the ancient stone walls. Naples doesn’t just show you its soul; it grabs you by the hand and pulls you into its vibrant, chaotic dance, inviting you to experience the unrefined, authentic spirit of a city that thrives on its imperfections.
After a weekend in this captivating city, I have collated a list of everywhere we enjoyed most - I hope it’s helpful!

“Nonna’s cooking”
For a dinner experience that feels like a lively Italian family gathering, head to Trattoria da Nennella. This place is renowned for its hearty, homestyle cooking and the chaotic yet charming vibe. Expect loud, friendly banter from the staff and generous portions of comforting Italian classics.
Pizzeria Gorizia - Traditional Pizza
Naples is the birthplace of pizza, and Pizzeria Gorizia serves up some of the best. This traditional pizzeria has been a local favourite since 1916!
Pizzeria Concettina ai Tre Santi
Another gem in Naples’ pizza scene is Pizzeria Concettina ai Tre Santi. You literally can’t eat “too much” pizza when in this region of Italy - it’s not possible.
